Top Four Benefits of Attending Academic Workshops & Seminars!
In this new age and era, attending academic workshops, seminars, training and conferences are considered to be the new mode of external learning! While many consider this to be an ineffective exercise where they aren’t subjected to learn anything new, research suggests otherwise. Online surveys were distributed to students who attended the International Conservative Congress out of which 91% of them claimed to have received relevant contacts that have helped them significantly in their line of study. Two-thirds of them (64%) expressed that they gained ideas, contacts and lessons that was effectively implemented in their assessments*. While it is established that attending such academic-oriented events can help students in diverse ways, this blog will delve deeper into the top four benefits that can impact positively on student experience and exposure.
Meet peers and like-minded people
At an academic workshop or a seminar, you may bump into someone who is as passionate and interested in the subject as you are. Unlike science and other subjects, fashion and design come under vocational education and can be very subjective. Hence, as a student pursuing such programs, it is extremely important to keep refreshing your perspective from other people’s work. This is where workshops, seminars and other academic events benefit you!
Opportunity to meet industry experts
Attending such events means meeting professionals who have excelled in your field. Listening to them speak and present their creative ideas can encourage you to showcase your work or inspire you to work harder. For instance, they may present ideas that you may have not even considered previously. This may just open avenues for you to improvise and try!
Networking
Along with listening to professionals and experts of the industry, workshops and seminars can even give you access to network with them. Seminars often have open discussions and debates where not only the speaker gives his opinion but allows you to have the opportunity to share your ideas and experiences. This could also be a chance where you could get solutions to common problems and expert advice on how you could possibly tackle some challenges.
Improve oral communication
Seminars and workshops are platforms that often encourage practising professional communication techniques. According to recent studies, Seminars are extremely beneficial as they allow students to become better listeners, present strong arguments and give clear opinions on different subjects. Activities and group discussions allow students to interact and enhance their interpersonal skills. Such soft skills can come in handy; not just while studying but also in your employment.
